Collection: FINISHED COWHIDE LEATHER
Types of Leather Finishes
Finishing occurs after the tanning process. Finished leather is treated leather and can include applying pigment which can change the natural color of the leather, or other techniques can be used to change the natural texture or appearance of the leather. Common finishes include full, aniline, patent, pigmented, semi-aniline, metallic, suede, oily, nubuck and waxy. The purpose of any finish is to enhance the natural beauty of the leather. Finished Leather is good for creating more durable products where there may be more contact or wear like shoes, belts, some handbags etc.

How to Choose Between Fully-Finished, Aniline, Semi-Aniline and Pigmented Leather
A more in-depth guide to the distinct types of finishes will help you determine which is best for your application. The primary differences between these finishes include:
Full: A full finish includes a coat of dye and protective layer. It’s the most popular treatment and is more resilient to damages. The layers form a thin barrier between the air and hide and offer a glossy appearance with some shine to cover the hide’s imperfections.
Aniline: Treated with clear oil base, aniline hides allow the leather’s natural grain and color to show.
Semi-Aniline: Semi-aniline is dyed with transparent solutions, along with spraying color pigment to eliminate any irregularities.
Pigmented: Pigmented finishes are similar to painting over the hide with a specific color
At United Leather we also use chrome and vegetable oil finishes.
